I was stuck in a corporate job, not a career, that took me away from my family. I knew I had always wanted to do massage and I started to look at different schools in the area. Once I stepped into the Massage Academy of the Poconos (MAP), I knew I had a home here. It was a warm, intimate setting with great energy. The classes were held at night and on the weekends which meant that I could continue working full time and still work towards becoming a massage therapist. It was a challenge and a sacrifice but I am so happy that I did it. I finished up classes, massage clinic, sat for the Mblex and was a licensed massage therapist in 10 months!

After retiring as a laboratory technician from Sanofi Pasteur, I was looking for a part-time job that would be fun and rewarding. My friend had become a therapist and enjoyed it, so I decided to try it for myself. MAP was accommodating in setting up a payment plan for the endeavor so that took care of the money part. I found the classes were a challenge but well worth the effort. I have been a massage therapist for three years and am very glad to have gone to MAP. Massage therapy did turn out to be rewarding in many ways.

I come from a background in the mental health field but have had an interest in holistic practices and alternative methods of healing for as long as I can remember. While in my position, I often thought about those in recovery and believed there could be a better approach to managing symptoms and relieving emotional distress. I wanted the next step in my career to be something I was passionate about, which is helping others find healthy alternatives for healing. At that time, I viewed massage therapy as an outlet for people to experience relaxation and to escape from the daily stress. I quickly learned massage was much more than that and how healing can occur on all levels – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I appreciated Ms. Hick’s approach to meeting with me prior to my enrollment to get to know me and help me determine if massage school was an appropriate “next step” for me in my journey for personal and professional growth. She radiates a passion for the massage industry, as do her instructors. The enjoyable atmosphere, supportive environment, variety within the curriculum and length of program, and the personalized experience I received are all reasons I would highly recommend Massage Academy of the Poconos.
